Property Insurance Claim FAQ’s

Why can’t my insurance broker or agent handle my property insurance claim?
The primary function of an insurance agent or broker is to SELL insurance policies, not estimate and adjust claims.  The claim estimating and claim adjustment process is a specialized area of the insurance industry.  Your Army Star Claims Specialist and our Public Adjuster are trained to specifically deal with the estimating and adjusting process to aid the homeowner in receiving all possible benefits from their insurance policy.

 Are insurance claims negotiable?
Many components of an insurance claim are negotiable. Some of the possible components that may be negotiated are as follows; repair costs, depreciation amounts, cost/value of goods, work completion deadlines, and overhead/profit.  Your Army Star Claims Specialist will be able to inform and navigate you through these possibilities.

What’s the downside of allowing the claim adjuster from the insurance company to handle the claim process for me?
There can be many downsides to allowing the claim adjuster from your homeowners insurance company to handle this process. First and foremost, remember that the claim adjuster from your insurance company does not work for YOU, the work for the insurance company they represent.  Therefore, they have the company interest first in their mind, not you, the customer. Insurance policies require the customer to prove damages/losses. That being said, the insurance company adjuster is going to primarily focus on what is NOT damaged and often not provide a thorough inspection. Thus, missing much hidden damage and not covering your entire loss.  Your Claims Specialist and Public Adjuster from Army Star Restorations work for YOU, the customer and have your first interest in mind.

Why hire a public adjuster to handle a property insurance claim?
The most important reason is that the Public Adjuster works for YOU, the customer, NOT the insurance company. Your Army Star Claims Specialist and Public Adjuster have your needs as their primary focus and are your allies in getting your damage fixed and navigating through the claims process. Your allies are trained to thoroughly asses ALL damage, navigate the claims process on your behalf and produce the maximum value for all of your loses.

Will my insurance company discourage me from hiring a public adjuster?
Possibly. Insurance companies are inclined to minimize loses so they may maximize their company profits. As stated, it is the customer responsibility to prove damage and loss.  Most customers are not thoroughly versed in every single detail of their insurance policy and able to persuade their insurance company to provide this information. Your Army Star Public Adjuster will exhaust every detail of your claim while requiring your insurance company to adhere to their policies. The result, you receive the maximum benefits from your insurance policy that you pay for and accountability from the insurance company.

How long do I have to re-open my claim to attempt to get an additional settlement from the insurance company?
That answer varies depending upon which state you reside. Most states require insurance companies to provide the claimant up to one year from date of loss to re-open a claim or file a supplemental claim for damages.

Will my insurance company cancel my insurance or “drop me” if I hire a Public Adjuster?
An insurance company cannot cancel or “drop” a claimant for any reason other than fraud or material representation. An insurance company may elect to not renew your policy, but that may only occur on the anniversary of the renewal date.

What’s involved in the insurance claim process when using a Public Adjuster Contractor?
You can expect the claim process to include the following:

– Notification to the insurance company

– Meetings with the insurance company and their representatives

– Documentation of damages (photos, receipts, expert opinion reports, etc…)

– Estimate of damages to property and structure(s)

– Revisions and negotiations of line items on estimates

– Daily and weekly claim communication

– Qualified, licensed and bonded Construction Specialists to restore and repair damages

– Submission of claim packages

– Submission of a Sworn Statement and Proof of Loss form

– Settlement negotiations

Why can’t I prepare and negotiate my own insurance claim for property damage?

Any customer may prepare and negotiate their own claim.  Those who attempt to do so without the assistance of an Army Star Claims Specialist and Public Adjuster quickly realize that they are not receiving the full benefits of their insurance policy. Without assistance, many mistakes can be made that can cost time, money and additional stress. Your Army Star Claims Specialist and Public Adjuster are the experts when calculating the scope of damage and the origin of cause of damage is correct diagnosed. Your Army Star Team will also assure that the insurance company adhere to to policy requirements/obligations, apply all benefits/ monetary settlements properly and remain in control of the pace of your claim.

Can a public insurance adjuster reverse a denied insurance claim?
In some cases, it is possible. While it can be disheartening to receive a denial letter for an insurance claim, many denials can be reversed only if you know the proper steps to take. Insurance companies commonly and unfairly deny insurance claims due to wrongly interpreting the insurance policy or misdiagnosing the cause or origin of damage. An experienced public claim adjuster can determine the validity of a denied claim. Many of our highest claim settlements came from claims that were originally denied but when we requested a 2nd adjuster meeting along with actual evidence of damage from our pre inspection the claims were sent through in the homeowners favor.
